Albany CBD to Become an AREA 40km/h Zone
To improve safety for all road users, Main Roads will soon introduce an AREA 40km/h speed limit across the broader Albany CBD. The proposed changes are set to be implemented in mid-April.
The new speed limit will enhance safety, particularly in areas with high pedestrian activity. Main Roads will begin installing AREA 40km/h signage soon, and your support during this transition is greatly appreciated.
In 2004, the State Government introduced the School Zones and Children’s Crossing Program, committing to safe speed limits at all children’s crossings outside school zones during school hours. Today, most children’s crossings across the Great Southern operate with 40km/h limits.
The decision to implement a broader AREA 40km/h Zone across the Albany CBD follows a review of the two remaining children’s crossings on Lockyer Avenue and Middleton Road. This review determined that an AREA 40km/h limit was the most appropriate outcome for improving road safety across the CBD.
