Many areas can only connect using wireless broadband. If you require a high speed internet connection it is worth investigating the availability prior to moving.

NBN

The National Broad Band Network is scheduled to be rolled out across Albany, this will be both fixed wireless and Fiber to the Node (FTTN). To find out when NBN will be installed visit the NBN website.

Public Transport

Albany has a scheduled bus service that runs to all parts of the City.

For more information on bus routes and time tables view our getting around by bus page.

Bins

It is the property owner's responsibility to provide and maintain kerbside bins for their property. Bins are not provided by the City, but can be purchased from Plastics Plus or Cleanaway who also sell spare parts such as lids, wheels, axles and pins. We've got some handy tips for how to care for your bin here.

If you buy a new bin for household waste collection, or a replacement lid, please ensure it complies with Australian Standards as follows:

  • General Waste: 140L capacity, dark green or black base with a red lid
  • Recycling: 240L capacity, green base with a yellow lid
  • FOGO: 240L capacity, dark green or black base with a lime-green lid.

Kitchen Caddy & Liners: We also recommend each household has a kitchen caddy to help sort your food waste in the kitchen prior to placing in the FOGO bin. If your house doesn’t have a caddy, these can be purchased from a number of local retailers. The City may from time-to-time supply free compostable liners for the kitchen caddy. If you choose to purchase liners, please ensure they are certified compostable and display the symbol below. Please visit our FOGO page for more information.

Waste Collection

Albany's bin system is a FOGO (Food Organics & Garden Organics) service, which will mean you can also put your food waste with your garden prunings in your lime green lidded bin.

Use our handy 'How to sort your waste' guide - pop it on your fridge for easy reference! This guide is also available in ItalianFilipino and Karen.

Please visit our FOGO page for information about what goes in each bin.
