The National Anzac Centre is celebrating its 5th anniversary this year and the community is invited to come along to the special day to explore the Princess Royal Fortress and Museum.

Since the then Australian and New Zealand Prime Ministers opened it on November 1, 2014, the National Anzac Centre has become an acclaimed attraction, winning many awards including TripAdvisor’s #1 Museum in Australia twice.

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall are also among many dignitaries and more than 300,000 visitors to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of our Anzacs at the museum.

This year’s milestone event will run from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, November 1 and will include live music, a 9-pound gun firing, guided tours of the surrounding fortress, and lawn games.

Residents who become a local ambassador for the National Anzac Centre and sign up to be a League of Local Legends member will receive free entry to the museum during the anniversary event.

Public barbecue facilities are available within the grounds, with takeaway options available for purchase from Garrison Restaurant.

City of Albany Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe invited everyone to come along.

“The National Anzac Centre is a fantastic asset to the Albany community, but one which many locals have yet to explore firsthand,” he said.

“So much has changed at the site in the last decade, with rotational exhibits in the Princess Royal Fortress and much improved amenity across the whole precinct.

“The 5th anniversary is a timely occasion to visit the National Anzac Centre, bring a picnic and enjoy the area with family and friends.”

The League of Local Legends program entitles residents and ratepayers to 50% off standard entry prices to the National Anzac Centre or free entry if accompanying a paying guest, as well as special offers at Garrison Restaurant and a 10% discount at the Forts Store.

Residents can sign up to the program at the Five Year Anniversary or on the National Anzac Centre website www.nationalanzaccentre.com.au/locallegends
