Three City of Albany Councillors have been acknowledged for their notable contribution to the Local Government sector in Western Australia.

Mayor Dennis Wellington, Councillor Robert Sutton and Councillor Ray Hammond were recognised at the Western Australian Local Government Association Local Government Honours Awards earlier this month.

Having served as an Elected Member in Local Government for more than 20 years so far, Mayor of Albany Dennis Wellington was one of six recipients of the Eminent Service Award.

WALGA’s Eminent Service Award acknowledges members for their personal commitment, eminent service and contribution to the Local Government sector or the association.

Mayor Wellington was nominated for his strong leadership and playing a key role in building a positive culture that has delivered significant results for the Albany community and region.

Councillor Sutton and Councillor Hammond were recipients of the Long and Loyal Service Award in recognition of each of their 13 years’ service as City of Albany Elected Members.

Long and Loyal Service Awards recognise members for long service of a high degree to Local Government, the Local Government sector or the association.

Councillor Hammond’s advocacy for the Albany Heart Safe Project that led to the installation of over 100 life-saving defibrillators across the community featured in his nomination.

Councillor Sutton’s passion for establishing a Motorsport Park in Albany and his commitment to Road Safety earnt him his nomination.

Mayor of Albany Dennis Wellington said it was an honour to be recognised by WALGA for outstanding service to the Albany community.

“Both Councillor Sutton and Councillor Hammond have been dedicated, passionate and committed across 13 years of serving as Elected Members,” he said.

“It was very special for us to be acknowledged together and it is truly a privilege to represent the Albany community.”
