City of Albany Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe has been awarded Leader of the Year in Local Government at the Institute of Public Administration Australia WA (IPAA WA) Achievement Awards.

This accolade recognises Mr Sharpe’s outstanding leadership and significant strategic outcomes achieved under his guidance, which have positioned Albany as a premier regional city.

His values-based leadership philosophy, built on trust, collaboration and community pride, has driven the City’s success across major initiatives such as the National Anzac Centre, Middleton Beach Foreshore, Centennial Park redevelopment, Albany 2026, and the Albany Motorsport Park.

Under Mr Sharpe’s stewardship, Albany has excelled in community satisfaction, sustainability, and project delivery, earning recognition as one of Western Australia’s top-performing local governments.

Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe dedicated the award to the City of Albany’s passionate team and the proud Albany community.

"This recognition reflects the tireless efforts, dedication, and commitment of our staff, who work every day to deliver exceptional outcomes for our community,” he said.

“Without their unwavering support, dedication, and hard work, and the incredible spirit of our residents, this award wouldn’t have been possible.

“This recognition is a shared achievement that highlights the strength of our collective effort and the pride we all take in making Albany a truly remarkable place to live, work, and visit.

"It also reflects the partnerships we've built with local organisations, businesses, and community groups, which have been instrumental in achieving our shared vision for Albany."

Mayor of Albany Greg Stocks praised Mr Sharpe’s ability to unite teams and drive results.

“Andrew has been instrumental in fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and community connection within the City of Albany,” he said.

“This strategic vision and steady leadership within the City has been critical in navigating challenges and delivering projects that make a real difference for our residents.

“This award reflects the City of Albany’s ongoing commitment to building a future defined by trust, values, and shared success, ensuring that Albany continues to thrive as a model regional city."
