How do you find your character's voices? How do you raise the dramatic stakes and create conflict using dialogue and subtext? How do you use dialogue to further your character's dramatic arcs?

Explore the essentials of writing dialogue in this three-hour workshop with award winning playwright, Mary Anne Butler. The workshop is useful across a range of genres including fiction, memoir, stage plays, narrative poetry, auto-fiction and auto/biography.

We'll analyse dialogic tools including : rhythm, subtext, analogy, voice, tense, layout and punctuation - including the use of 'white space' on the page - to expand the possibilities of dialogue, using examples from a range of fiction, stage plays, memoirs and non-fiction.
