The City of Albany is calling on community and sporting groups, local artists and passionate residents to present their activation concepts to the Albany 2026 Community Sponsorship Program.

Albany 2026 will be a historic occasion for the City of Albany and State of Western Australia acknowledging that Albany has a past that extends beyond just 200 years, having existed for millenia to the Menang people.

The City will be launching two funding streams to support exciting, engaging, and spectacular community-delivered activations in 2026.

The first category is for activations seeking funding under $10,000 and the second category is for projects seeking funding of $10,000 to a maximum of $50,000.

Events should showcase Albany’s rich culture and aim to reflect honestly on Albany’s past, recognise the community it is today, and create a future where anything is possible.

Albany 2026 will seek to advance reconciliation and highlight Menang-Noongar, migrant, and environmental heritage alongside historical narratives, encouraging reflection, commemoration, and appreciation of the contribution all cultures make to the community.

Albany Mayor Greg Stocks said the Albany 2026 Community Sponsorship Program aims to support community participation in the 2026 program.

“We want 2026 to be a year where our community shines and we invite the community to participate in this unique opportunity,” he said.

“2026 will be a significant year for Albany and we want our community to be at the heart of it all, creating memorable experiences that reflect our shared heritage and vibrant future.”

Applications for the Albany 2026 Community Sponsorship Program will be open from 29 July until 23 September 2024. For more information and to apply community can visit www.albany2026.com.au
