The Annual Budget for 2024-25 was adopted by the City of Albany Council last night, reflecting a commitment to responsible financial stewardship and strategic investment.

The Council approved a modest rate rise of 3.95%, ensuring the City can continue delivering high-quality services and investing in the community’s future without placing undue burden on residents.

The City faces climbing costs of doing business, with increases in materials, trades, and services mirroring rising prices of groceries, petrol, and household bills.

These financial pressures necessitate careful and strategic planning, with a 3.95% rate rise ensuring the City can meet community needs while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

This budget supports the delivery of capital works projects that align to community demand, with $19.2M upgrading and maintaining roads across the municipality from enhancements on Middleton Road and Albany Highway to upgrades on Bornholm South Road and Redmond Hay River Road.

Future proofing Albany’s waste disposal will require $4.8M, community buildings will be enhanced with $4.4M, while $7.1M will be dedicated to improving parks, reserves, trails and campgrounds.

Mayor of Albany Greg Stocks said the 2024-25 budget supports important projects that will grow Albany into the future.

“There are several major projects being undertaken within the scope of this budget that aim to enhance regional offerings to our residents”, he said.

“With significant support from the State and Federal Governments, the City is able to progress delivery of the Southern Ocean Surf Reef, Albany Tennis Centre and Albany 2026.

“These projects underpin the growth and development of our city, focusing on empowering our community to thrive, stay active and recognise our rich heritage.”

Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe said the budget is designed to support the high level of service delivery that residents expect.

"This budget is more than a financial document; it is a roadmap for our city's future. It embodies our shared vision of a vibrant, sustainable, and prosperous Albany,” he said.

“I would like to thank the Mayor and Council for their continued leadership and our City staff for their hard work, support and passion to enhancing the quality of life for all of Albany’s residents.”
