The highly anticipated Albany Regional Tennis Centre has officially opened, marking an exciting milestone for tennis enthusiasts and the wider Albany sporting community.

Located in the east of the Centennial Park Sporting precinct, the new centre represents the first stage of a multi-stage project aimed at creating a premier regional tennis facility.

This initial stage has delivered six state-of-the-art courts, a modern online court booking system, essential infrastructure such as fencing and nets, and vital stormwater and drainage works.

Future stages of the tennis centre project are planned to include additional courts, floodlighting, and expanded shared clubroom facilities, subject to funding.

Mayor of Albany Greg Stocks said the new facility demonstrates the City’s commitment to delivering high-quality sporting infrastructure that promotes community participation and growth.

"The Albany Regional Tennis Centre is not just an investment in sport, but an investment in our community,” he said.

“It brings together the Merrifield Park and Lawley Park Tennis Clubs to form the new Albany Tennis Club, creating opportunities for more people to engage in tennis, whether for recreation or competition, and fostering a stronger sense of community spirit.

“The Albany Regional Tennis Centre will also provide opportunities for large scale tennis events to take place in Albany and complement existing sporting infrastructure within Centennial Park.”

The $1.325 million project was funded by the State Government of Western Australia through Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and Great Southern Development Commission, with the City of Albany, Tennis Australia, Merrifield and Lawley Park Tennis Clubs.
