RD.NAM.1 - PUBLIC NOTICE - PROPOSED NEW ROAD NAME - WEEDEN LANE
Posted: 11/12/2024 Closing Date: 31/01/2025 05:00 PM
The City of Albany has been approached by the Police and Community Youth Centre (PCYC) and Albany MenShed to resolve ongoing emergency services callout issues to the Albany Menshed property.
The road adjacent to PCYC and the MenShed is a private road, constructed through City of Albany owned Lot 744, see map included on this page. When the road was constructed, no road name was applied, thus no street address is currently available for the MenShed location.
To resolve this, the City is proposing to apply the name Weeden Lane to this road, in honour of Nicole Weeden, who was an important member of the sporting community until her untimely death on 6 August 2022.
Nicole was posthumously awarded the Great Southern Service to Sport Award by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Recreation in 2023, in recognition of her service to the community.
Both Nicole’s family and Landgate (the authority for geographic naming in Western Australia) have given their initial support for the proposal.
The City is now seeking comments to this proposed commemorative name from the community, to meet Landgate requirements under sections 1.4 and 9 of the Policy and Standards for Geographic Naming in Western Australia. The Landgate document is attached to this notice.
