Albany’s motorsport enthusiasts have a reason to celebrate with the official opening of stage one of the Albany Motorsport Park, featuring the new Motocross and Offroad precincts this week.
Stage one of the site includes a 2.4km motocross dirt circuit track, clubhouse, facilities and associated infrastructure, offroad/4WD driver training area, fire services, access roads and site fencing.
Albany Motorsport Park aims to meet the high demand for motorsports in the region and foster recreation participation, social engagement, mental and physical health outcomes, club participation, volunteering, and job creation.
Member for Albany Rebecca Stephens said it is fantastic to see this project come to fruition.
“It’s vitally important that motorsport enthusiasts have a safe place to recreate in the Great Southern. I am proud that the Cook government has provided $30,000 towards the Albany Motocross Club Hard n Fast Moto x”
Mayor of Albany Greg Stocks expressed his excitement about the opening.
“The opening of Albany Motorsport Park marks a significant milestone for our community,” he said.
“It reflects our commitment to supporting local clubs and promoting community engagement, sport, and recreation whilst providing a safe and controlled environment for enthusiast of all ages.”
Theo Newhouse, Project Coordinator, and former chair of the Great Southern Motorplex Group said opening the Albany Motorsport Park is a game-changer for community and motorsport enthusiasts.
“For the first time, we have a dedicated, safe, and well-equipped venue to call home. This park will not only foster the growth of motorsport in the region but also provide a family-friendly environment where people of all ages can engage in their passion,” he said.
“It’s a dream come true for many who have waited for this moment, it promises to bring our community closer, encourage new memberships, volunteerism, and a shared love for the sport.”
The motocross track has been licenced by Motorcycling Australia and Motorcycling WA. Motorcycling WA’s Business Development and Operations Coordinator Justin Herold said from driving in to the venue, cresting the hill and the track opening in full view, what an amazing venue the team has built.
“We cannot wait to witness events, growth and development of Albany Motorsport Park,” he said.
The project is supported by almost $5 million from the Australian Government, the Western Australian Department of Local Government, Sport & Cultural Industries, the Great Southern Development Commission, together with the City of Albany and Great Southern Motorplex Group.
