Albany Town Hall will come alive with vibrant colour and striking emotion when artist Shaun Wake-Mazey brings his large-scale abstract oil paintings to the gallery from 17 January to 15 February.
Known for his dramatic use of colour and contrast, Wake-Mazey captures the transcendental space between the earth and the heavens, inviting viewers to reflect on the universal essence of spirit.
The anticipated exhibition features a selection of monumental artworks, so imposing that they are created on separate panels, allowing for easy assembly while maintaining their extraordinary scale.
Using a unique process of flooding and pouring paint on a horizontal plane, Wake-Mazey’s technique results in works that are both visceral and deeply emotive.
Shaun Wake-Mazey said his work aims to challenge the perspectives of his audiences.
"When I create, I’m not just painting—I’m exploring the intangible, that space where the physical and the spiritual meet,” he said.
“I want my work to fill the room, to immerse people in colour and emotion so that they leave with a renewed sense of connection to something larger than themselves.”
The Albany Town Hall, with its historic charm and state-of-the-art gallery, provides the perfect setting for this powerful exhibition.
Visitors will have the opportunity to experience Wake-Mazey’s exploration of universal themes in an intimate yet awe-inspiring setting.
Community is encouraged to witness the work of one of WA’s most compelling artists whilst they are in Albany for a limited time.
The exhibition is free to the public and runs from 17 January to 15 February 2025.
