Human experience explored at Albany Public Library

Life, death, and the depth of human connection will be explored at Albany Public Library this month when author Vivien Stuart presents an in-depth discussion about her novel Acacia House.

Acacia House follows the lives of three palliative care nurses of diverse backgrounds on the backdrop of a Perth hospice.

Presented as an in-conversation with Albany resident Fran Atkinson on Thursday, March 23, Vivien Stuart’s work will provide a space to discuss the special nature of palliative care and how to make the most of every moment with our loved ones.

“As a former palliative care nurse, I hope to share my experience through this artform and provide a positive influence on how our communities consider end-of-life processes,” Stuart said.

“It’s incredibly important for people to embrace the time we do have with our family and friends and to not fear the real conversations surrounding our own mortality.

“I hope my novel helps people see that joy in life can be found everywhere, even in dying, and caring for those who are dying.”

Manager Arts and Culture Paul Nielsen said that Stuart’s lived experience will provide the Albany community with a different perspective on life.

“While discussions around death can often feel uncomfortable, Vivien’s book highlights the humanity in this, and how death in itself can be a life-affirming part of everyone’s story,” he said.

“Acacia House will immerse its readers in the diverse backgrounds that each character brings to the table and how each influences their approach to care.”

Join Vivien Stuart at Albany Public Library on Thursday, March 23 from 5.30pm – 6.30pm.
