As the holiday period commences, so too will the City of Albany’s weekly summer FOGO collection.
From Monday 20 December 2021 until Friday 11 February 2022, households will have their FOGO bin collected weekly on their normal bin day.
General Waste and Recycling bins will still be collected fortnightly as per the regular schedule.
Manager Engineering and Sustainability Ruth March said FOGO collection would increase to weekly over the busy summer holiday season – a time when many households produced more food scraps and the weather was warmer.
“At this time of the year many of us welcome guests into our homes which can result in more food waste, and there can be an increase in more smelly seasonal fare like prawns and seafood,” she said.
“The weekly FOGO collection will also help to address concerns with smells and pests during the warmer part of the year.
“Albany residents can be proud of their efforts to reduce waste to landfill since the start of the FOGO service and we encourage everyone to continue these good habits over the holiday season.”
Residents who have additional household recycling can drop this off for free to Fossicker’s Tip Shop at Hanrahan Road Waste Facility.
