City of Albany are asking community for their feedback on the Artificial Surf Reef project which aims to enhance surfing at Middleton Beach and provide significant economic development to the region.
Funding from Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development has allowed the design phase to progress with Bluecoast Consulting Engineers who were awarded the tender in December.
Early consultation revealed an overwhelming ninety percent of the community showed support for the project that will deliver a consistent and surf-able wave at Middleton Beach.
The City are now engaging with the community again to ensure that the project developments are communicated to local residents, businesses and beach goers who frequent the coastline.
Mayor of Albany Dennis Wellington said the project has come leaps and bounds since December last year.
“There has been a significant amount of detailed design work done to get us to a point where we are able to reengage with the community to make sure we are on track to deliver the best outcome for our residents,” Mayor Wellington said.
“Our aim is not only to deliver a regular wave at one of the best beaches in WA, but drive benefits in tourism, economic development and keep our youth in Albany for longer.
“We want our community’s feedback on the project to understand any issues or concerns they might have and to seek answers to any questions that might pop up.”
