Albany to Perth
Regional Express won the State Government contract to fly the regulated route late last year and takes over from Virgin Australia.
Regional Express is one of the most awarded small airlines in the world.
It has won many accolades including the Australian Traveller People’s Choice Awards for Best Regional Airline in 2011, 2013 and 2014, Aviation Week Top Performing Regional Airline from 2009-2014, Air Transport World Regional Airline of the Year in 2010, and CAPA Aviation Awards for Excellence Regional Airline of the Year in 2007, 2008 and 2010.
Regional Express will fly four daily return services between Albany and Perth on weekdays.
There will be one return service on Saturday and Sunday and the airline will have six overnight flights per week with crew staying in Albany.
The new flight schedule will deliver a 53 per cent increase in flights and 13 per cent increase in overall seats in the Albany-Perth route.

Regional Express will fly Saab 340 aircraft, and under Aviation Transport Security Regulations 2005 do not require security screening due to being less than the 20,000kg Maximum Take Off Weight.
Security screening was installed at Albany Regional Airport in August 2014 to accommodate Virgin’s larger, heavier aircraft and comply with the aviation regulations.
To accommodate the smaller aircraft of Regional Express and assist in keeping air fares as low as possible, the City of Albany has applied to the Office of Transport Security to remove security screening at the airport.
The City of Albany is committed to assisting Regional Express keep air fares as low as possible to make flying more affordable for business people, residents and visitors.
This has resulted in Council reducing its fees and charges at Albany Regional Airport.
At its Ordinary Council Meeting on December 15, 2015, Council voted to reduce its passenger fees by more than 30 per cent, resulting in asaving per passenger of almost $14. This includes a full rebate on the security screening contractors’ costs and a reduction in the general passenger fee.
