The City of Albany is proud to deliver a wide range of information and education on waste and recycling. We aim to make it easy for residents to access information on how to do the right thing with recycling and waste disposal.

Here are some of the great resources and tools you can access to find out more and do your bit to help us maximise recycling, reduce waste to landfill and create a clean, green Albany.

1. Download our City of Albany phone app

This quick and easy application on your phone will answer all your questions about what can and can't be recycled, where to take it and how much it will cost, right on your phone! It will also tell you when your bin night is, send you reminders and give helpful tips. Visit our download page at Download the City of Albany app

2. Keep and check your calendar

Can't access our phone app? No problems! We produce an annual community calendar which will tell you what bin to put out when and what you can and can't recycle. Remember to keep this handy throughout the year to answer your questions. We usually distribute these in December each year. Give us a call or visit our Office on North Road to pick up a copy.

3. Visit Fossicker's Tip Shop

Need to pick up something for the house or garden? Chances are we will have a preloved, unique and gorgeous treasure waiting at Fossicker's Tip Shop! The City is proud of this facility which stocks a massive range of vintage second-hand items. We also have recycled art and displays for inspiration to reuse and upcycle. So instead of purchasing new items, pop in and see us at the Hanrahan Road Waste Facility, open 7 Days 8.30am to 4.15pm. Where someone's old becomes someone's new!

4. Join us at events and workshops

The City works hard to deliver a wide range of events and activities to provide you with information in a fun and interesting way. The annual Green Fair on the Square in November celebrates and promotes recycling, upcycling and being green and sustainable. For other events and workshops, keep an eye on our events page - or Download our phone app for updates!

5. Come and see your recycling in action

We welcome residents and visitors to take a tour of the Materials Recovery Facility – the factory where your recycling is sorted, processed and sent for recycling. We run these tours in partnership with Cleanaway and any groups are welcome – schools, TAFE, associations.
Come and see how your waste is managed and learn how to help us maximise waste that can be recycled. To book a tour call Cleanaway on 1300 784 468.

6. Keep updated with our e-newsletter

We like to keep our residents informed not only with local information on being green and sustainable but also helpful tips, advice and interesting facts from elsewhere. One way we do this is via our community e-newsletter. Simply scroll to the end of this page and click Subscribe.

7. Give us your Green feedback and ideas

If you have an idea, would like to make a suggestion or even sign up for future initiatives and projects let us know. It's as easy as emailing the City at fossickers@albany.wa.gov.au!
