More to 'Your City' than meets the eye
7 March 2018
There is a lot involved in keeping Albany running. It’s like running a business or maintaining your home and property, but on a much bigger scale.
The City of Albany has 38,000 residents with a diverse range of needs and expectations and it’s our job to deliver these for the community.
Our passionate Mayor, councillors and staff help us achieve this. They love their work and they care about their community. They are part of your community too.
They fight fires. They make sandwiches for junior footballers. They drive ambulances. They are swimming coaches. They are Bushcarers. They are Girl Guide leaders. They count birds and possums. They rescue injured turtles.
Our people also work hard in their jobs to make your city a place you can be proud to call home.
We want to share more with you about who we are and what we do for the community. You know we build and fix roads. You know we manage and maintain public facilities like Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre. But there is a lot we do that may surprise you.
Did you know last financial year we rehomed or reunited 480 pets. Or planted 2,523 trees and maintained another 8,700 street trees. We mowed 30,000km of lawn, and collected 1,270,880 bins – that’s a lot of bins.
Security covered 8,837km patrolling our public facilities, we reduced our carbon emissions by 82.8 tonnes, supported 153 community events and provided 2003 man hours responding to fires.
This is just a snapshot of what we do to help create a community with a quality of life that makes your city a great place to live and achieve our vision for Albany to be a sought after and unique place to live, work and visit.
Each fortnight over the next year, beginning today, we will be releasing a short video showing you more about our people, their passions, and the work they do, often behind the scenes.

Everything we do at the City we do for our community. This is ‘Your City’.
