Albany Public Library will present two events during NAIDOC Week 2017 early next month.

Dr Richard Walley OAM will present an evening of stories and music exploring the richness of Aboriginal Culture at the Albany Town Hall on Monday, July 3

A musician, artist, director, actor, writer and educator, Richard has worn many hats over his long and illustrious career. He has been awarded an Order of Australia Medal and two honorary doctorates for his contribution to the promotion of Noongar Culture and the Arts.

Wednesday, July 5 will reflect on the 50th Anniversary of the historic 1967 Referendum where Australians voted overwhelmingly to amend the constitution to include Aboriginal people in the Census and allow the Commonwealth to create laws for them. The Library will be screening the documentary ‘Vote YES for Aborigines’ to acknowledge this significant milestone.

Following the screening a panel of local Noongar people will share their insights and stories of this unique moment in Australian history.

Both events are free however bookings are essential and can be made via the Library’s website http://library.albany.wa.gov.au/news-events/events/ or phone 6820 3600.
