For food businesses
The City of Albany takes food safety and hygiene within our city very seriously. All businesses have obligations to produce safe and suitable food. The Environmental Health Team are assisting food businesses to meet these obligations by providing free access to a new exciting training tool - I'm Alert Food Safety Training.
There is a high demand for training in the food sector. This training will assist food handlers in developing the required skills and knowledge to ensure food is handled in a safe and hygienic manner.
The program is easy to follow and includes an entertaining presentation as well as interactive quizzes. A training acknowledgement form can be printed upon completion and kept as part of your staff records.

When establishing a new or buying an existing food business, it is important to make yourself aware of the approvals, permits and licenses issued by the City of Albany. Please note that planning and building approvals may also be required.
To register your food business in the City of Albany you are required to submit a completed food business registration/notification form or transfer form (links below) and pay the applicable fees. An inspection of the premises will need to take place prior to the opening.
Regular routine inspections are undertaken to ensure compliance with legislative requirements in an effort to protect public health and safety.
The design, construction, maintenance and operation of a premises is to comply with the Health Act, Food Act, Food Hygiene Regulations and Council's Local Laws.
Most inspections are undertaken without giving notice to the operator; this is to give a true indication of how the premises is operated under normal conditions.
